Thirteen Reasons Why

Reader’s Review for ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’ by Jay Asher.

Suicide. A topic no one seems to address, and I’ve not read many books specifically talking about it. Until Jay Asher’s novel Thirteen Reasons Why. Asher writes about a high school girl who commits suicide, but before she does so she records tapes about the reason why she kills herself and sends them to thirteen people, thirteen people who did something that brought her to that point. It’s a harsh book, a book that really does talk about the emotions and actions that lead people to thoughts of suicide. Asher doesn’t shy away from talking about shaming, guilt, and abuse. I appreciate Asher’s courage to talk about this topic and he tells this girl’s story in a beautiful way. He’s a great story teller and it’s a book that I couldn’t put down.
